Lyrics
You said you are the ceiling I heard you are the floor I said I am the hinges You heard I am the door You said you are the hammer I heard you are the nail I said I am the rudder You heard I am the sail All words are like vapor Thin as wrapping paper Some are very thin Words are thin-skinned [Chorus] Each and every word comes with two sides We can either get the whole or choose to divide [Verse] You always say the truth And I'm no liar I thought you were the water But I learned you are the fire Everyone’s got a point of view I t doesn't have to agree with you But if we listen to the core we don’t argue anymore I heard that I am the fool And you the hero And you heard I am the one And you the zero You think I'm both ends When I think I'm the middle You think you're the answer When I think you’re the riddle And if I'm the red wine And you're the crystal glass Then why when I say iron You alway hear brass? I’m an oscillating wave And you’re a floating particle When I’m speaking micro Your hearin’ astronomical [Chorus] Each and every word comes with two sides We can either see the whole Or choose to divide |

I Been In This Movie Before New Consciousness Two-Sided Words Leaf Blowin' Blues You Are The Universe Attention Awesome Earth People! 'Two-Sided Words' Back Story When I wrote this song I was thinking of duality. The fact that everything has a polar opposite. Up and down, left and right, and so forth. And any point of view can have an opposing point of view that may be equally valid. We can either see through the duality and get to the heart of a matter where we share a commonality, or we get stuck in positions of opposing polarities. Related to this is the philosophy of Non-dualism that seeks to overcome the duality that humans feel within themselves, toward others and the natural world. However the concepts of duality and non-duality are merely products of philosophical thought. Therefore, if we do not think about duality or non-duality, then neither exists. Which in practical terms means that when we are able to hear each other without any preconception then we are truly listening with empathy.
